DIY - Smartphone tripod / stand version 3

How to make a small stand / tripod* for smartphones,
- easy to make and simple to use.

Design by Benny Johansson

Smartphone tripod / stand version 3
The phone can be tilted 0-8 degrees on one side and 15 on the other.
Very small and light, fits on a keychain.
How to make it
Materials:
- a piece of polypropylene (PP) plastic from a DVD-case , minimum 6 x 4 cm
( the DVD case can still be used afterwards )
- Self vulcanizing rubber tape (also called self-fusing or self amalgamating tape)
alternative: a thin piece of rubber and double adhesive tape would also work
Step 1:
- cut out the plastic piece,
this material is thick so use a sharp blade and cut multiple times to get through
( slide in a thick piece of cardbord like shown below to protect the outer cover and inlay)
- print out the PDF template and tape it on the plastic piece
- make the holes and make a surface mark through the cutting lines with a sharp knife
Step 2:
Remove the template and cut out the piece as shown below.
Step 3:
Pre-bend the plastic piece a little bit like shown below
Step 4:
- heat bend to a 90 degree angle like shown below
( I used a piece of aluminium foil to concentrate heat to the bending area)
- wrap a thin layer of rubber tape as shown below
( you could also use a thin piece of rubber and double adhesive tape on the top side )

* Tripod might not be the correct definition but I think it describes the
function better than "camera support" .
